Pan Card For NRI : Overview
Any Indian or foreign national who wants to do any type of financial transaction in India will need a PAN card. It is used for opening a bank account, investing in the Indian market, buying and investing land, house and property in India, filing returns etc. NRIs can apply for a PAN card both online and offline.
Online applications can be made by visiting the official website of the department. While applying online, along with entering the necessary details, the documents have to be scanned and uploaded on the website. On the other hand, to apply offline, you should download the 49AA form and enter all the necessary details clearly in it. And by attaching the necessary documents with the form, it should be submitted to the Indian Embassy or to the PAN Card Service Center.
For making NRI PAN card, passport, proof of residence abroad and passport size photograph are required. NRIs who hold Indian citizenship should indicate the Indian address located in India in the application form. Indian or foreign NRIs do not require an Aadhaar card. Passport is enough. The PAN card is dispatched to the applicant’s address in about 20 days after the application is made.

- Step 1. First in Google https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/ or https://www.protean-tinpan.com/ Search or click on the given link.
- Step 2. After this, in front of you The page for Online PAN application will appear.
- A) Here from the option ʺApplication Typeʺ select ʺForm 49Aʺ or ʺForm 49AAʺ.
- Note — Keep in mind if you have Indian citizenship then choose ʺForm 49Aʺ.
- Note — If holding foreign citizenship and choose ʺForm 49AAʺ.
- B) After this, enter your name, date of birth, email ID and mobile number in the given option ʺApplicant informationʺ and check it by clicking on the check box given in front of term and condition, then fill Captcha Code and click on Submit button.
- A) Here from the option ʺApplication Typeʺ select ʺForm 49Aʺ or ʺForm 49AAʺ.
- Step 3. Now a new page will appear in front of you where the token number will appear. You note it down. And click on the button ʺContinue with PAN application Formʺ given on this page.
- Step 4. Enter some required information on this page. As-
- Select gender.
- Enter father’s name.
- Enter mother’s name.
- In ʺParents name to be printed on the PAN Cardʺ, click on the radio button given against the name of mother or father and select them.
- That is, you can click on the radio button in front of the mother or father whose name you want to be printed on your PAN card.
- After this click on the button of NEXT.
- Step 5. Enter the following information given at the bottom of this page.
- Select ʺSource of Incomeʺ.
- Click on the radio button given against ʺResidentialʺ or ʺOfficeʺ from the ʺAddress for communicationʺ option.
- Enter the residence address in the column ʺResidence Addressʺ.
- Enter the office address (*if any*) in the ʺOffice Addressʺ column
- Enter the mobile number and mail ID in the column of “Telephone Number & Email ID detailsʺ
- Select your citizenship and citizenship code in the column ʺCountry of Citizenshipʺ.
- You can give their further address by selecting ʺYesʺ in the column of ʺAppointing Representative Assesseeʺ. Or else select ʺNoʺ and click on the NEXT button given below.
- Step 6. On this page enter the details related to AO code. Then click on the button of NEXT.
- Step 7. This page is for document details..
- ʺSelect Proof of identityʺ. Like passports etc.
- Select ʺProof of identityʺ. Like- passport etc.
- Select Any one from the drop down list of Declaration “Herself / Himself” or “Representative Assessee”.
- If you are an adult you can choose Herself / Himself.
- Then enter the Place and click on the Submit button.
- Step 8. Here you will be on a new page. Where you have to click on the Proceed button to confirm the application. (Or if you want, you can also modify the application by clicking on the Edit button.)
- Step 9. On this page You will get the option to make payment. Complete the payment process and complete the application. If we talk about the payment amount, then a total of Rs 1017 will have to be paid.

Difference Between NRI Pan Card And Normal Pan Card
There are following differences between NRI Pan Card and normal PAN card-

3- Indian citizens can use the normal PAN card as an identity card along with paying taxes.
